Project: #1Room30Days - Week 1 Big Boy Room Makeover

Hey friends, I have some fun and exciting news to share. I'm participating in Project: 1 Room 30 Days hosted by my blogging buddy Alaya at behindthebiggreendoor.com

We have 30 days to makeover a room of our choice.  The space I'm tackling is my 9-year-old son Jaden's room.

Both Jaden and I agreed that it was time for a change. He's been asking for a "new" room for a while now. I'm excited for this opportunity to create a stylish space that still functions well for him and reflects his interests!

The inspiration board below is the general direction I'm heading in. I purposely kept the bigger pieces {bed, rug, arm chair, etc...} fairly neutral. This will make it easy to introduce different fun pops of color through accessories.

His current bed will get an update with an upholstered headboard. I still need to source the fabric.

I'm also updating the wall lamp. I will replace the end table with a thrifted campaign night stand that I plan on painting {I'm not completely sold on the navy color yet}.

Hallelujah we are getting rid of the green futon after eight years! For seating I will be moving the arm-chair that is currently in our loft playroom area {with a new slipcover} to his room along with a soft cube ottoman.

The Lego storage bins will stay but hopefully after organizing the Legos we can pare it down to just two.

The wall decor will also get an update with a super easy and inexpensive star wars print gallery wall.

To showcase his extensive Lego mini figures collection, I'm using a really cool vintage piece I found at a local antique store.

I will also reuse his Ikea Expedit shelf but, vertically this time to take up less floor space.

To keep costs down for this makeover I plan to use as much of his existing furniture as possible.  I'm super happy that I already own the chair, shelf, clock, arm chair, and bed.

I'm so excited {and nervous} y'all! This is my first time participating in a makeover project like this, and I can't wait to get started! I will be sharing my progress and DIY projects here on the blog along the way.

I will also share behind the scenes photos of the good, the bad, and the ugly on Instagram: @thehomeicreate, using the tag #1room30days so follow along with me friends!

Be sure to check out Alaya's blog Behind The Big Green Door for more details about Project: 1 Room 30 Days!

So what do you think of the inspiration board? Would you add or take away anything? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for stopping by friends, see you next time!

Thank you Vin! It's funny that's one of my favorite elements too! He has so many Lego Minifigures, I feel it will be nice to display some of them! Thanks for stopping by!
