Hey everyone! Happy to have you back for another installment of Project #1room30days big girl bedroom edition! Did you enjoy my cheeky opening LOL.
We made great progress in week 2 of Kayla’s big girl bedroom makeover. As I shared in week 1, my plans for week 2 were to paint, declutter, and pick out fabric for Kayla’s window seat. Of course shopping was also on the list of things to do, but that’s ongoing so expect some shopping updates weekly too.
Big Girl Bedroom Paint:
Kayla wanted a “pink” bedroom, and I really didn’t. After browsing Pinterest for inspiration, I realized I’m really drawn to this blush pink trend that’s happening right now. So I figured let’s try it and see how it goes, after all it’s only paint.
We narrowed it to three Sherwin Williams colors, Angelic, Charming Pink, and Rosy Outlook. Although they all looked almost identical in the container, once on the wall it was a totally different story.
Truthfully it can be a little annoying sometimes to shell out the extra money to get paint samples. However, It’s a whole lot more expensive to have to repaint a whole room.
We decided on the paint color Angelic by Sherwin Williams. I was admittedly a little nervous when it was going up.
You guys I can’t even say enough how much I love this color! It’s the perfect “blush”pale pink.
These photos are just not doing the color any justice! It’s really soft and the room just glows! The first few days I kept thinking the lights were on. I’m totally serious! Look at this text exchange between hubby and I.
This was honestly a point of comprise for me, but I’m glad I listen to Kayla. Like I said in last weeks post, she has a lot of opinions haha. Really though I love that both Kayla and I love it!
Shopping Update:
I almost tripped over my own foot in excitement when I spied this chair over the weekend at my favorite antique mall! After some quick on the spot research on my phone, I learned that this amazing lucite chair is vintage {1960’s} made by Hill Manufacturing Co.
I also found out that they are pretty hard to come by and pricey! A $1000 a chair! Yikes!
Then I found this picture on Lonny showing the chair in a little big girls bedroom upholstered in a fun yellow fabric. Isn’t this whole room gorgeous though?! It was done by San Francisco–based interior designer Nicole Hollis.
I was sold! To jazz it up a bit, I plan on spray painting the legs gold and reupholstering the seat in a fun fabric! Can’t wait to get started on this one!
Wait, did I mentioned that I already purchased the ghost chair pictured in my inspiration board…
Yeah, so Kayla and I picked up the ghost chair last weekend, but it’s going back. The price for both chairs are comparable, but the ghost chairs thin acrylic frame doesn’t even compare to the quality of this true lucite chair!
Declutter:
Getting the room painted and buying and returning chairs wasn’t the only thing we got done. We also decluttered.
Kayla loves playing with Barbie’s {code for she has a lot}, so getting them organized was crucial.
Using this idea I saw on Pinterest ages ago. I used an over the door shoe holder to house her Barbie’s.
We also, purge her toy bins {by we I mean me, Kayla was having an impromptu dress up session :)}. I was pleasantly surprised to see how willing Kayla was to donate the toys she hasn’t played with in a while or have outgrown.
We had so much going last week that we did not make it to the fabric store, so now that will be part of this weeks tasks.
This week will be a big week as the new tufted daybed will be going up, plus the upholstery for the window seat and chair. Not to mention the rug and sconce will be delivered this week also!
So far the last two weeks have gone according to plan for her Kayla’s big girl bedroom {yay!}, I hope this week does as well!
Week 1: Finalize room plans, make all online orders, and pick out paint color.
Week 2: Declutter and paint.
Week 3: Fabric for window seat and chair, reupholster window seat and chair, and set up new bed.
Week 4: Accessories and window treatment.
Week 5: Reveal
I hope you will follow along with my progress over the next few weeks! I will be posting updates every Monday, so consider signing up to get my new posts delivered right to your inbox. I promise, no spam ever!
