Because we've always lived in different states from our families. It's often our little family of 4 for Thanksgiving.
We still cook up a storm. And I still love setting a pretty table for us to enjoy our food and family time around!
The Theme - Blue and Copper Thanksgiving Table
It’s always fun to come up with different “themes” if you will each year.
This year I was inspired by these pretty feather dishes from Pier 1. On sale now for less than $5 each!
The reddish-brown accents in the feather design immediately had me thinking of copper accents.
Which is a beautiful juxtaposition to the cool blues also found in the feather design.
Unexpected Elements
When putting a tablescape together don't be afraid to use nontraditional tabletop decor items.
Don't stash away those beautiful scarves or pretty patterned throws, they can be used as a table runner or tablecloth.
For this table, I used a plaid throw as a “tablecloth”. With its blue hues and gold accent color. It tied the whole table together.
The second unexpected piece I used is this large farmhouse cutting board I got last year.
It created the perfect base to layer my simple centerpiece.
Trays, pretty pans, books, and baskets all can be used as part of a simple centerpiece.
Simple Dried Hydrangea Centerpiece
If you look at any of the tablescapes I've done over the years. They all have one thing in common, a simple centerpiece.
When you're gathered around a table with friends and family. The last thing you need is a giant centerpiece getting in the way of good conversation and passing the grub.
For this tablescape I simply I mainly used some dry hydrangeas I clipped from my yard in a copper pitcher.
To help keep the dry hydrangeas stable I used 2 blocks of floral foam inside the pitcher {sorry for the crappy phone pic}
Next, I placed the copper pitcher in the center of the cutting board and layered some seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus on top.
{You can get a huge bunch of eucalyptus for $3 at Trader Joes}
Added some mini white pumpkins along with 3 small navy blue painted ceramic pumpkins from Target's One Spot.
To tie in with the feather plates. I tucked in some faux feathers and called it done!
It literally took less than 10 minutes!
Special Touches
One of my favorite part of creating tablescapes are the little special touches sprinkled throughout.
Adding pieces like pretty silverware and monogram napkins {$7 from HomeGoods, it only sounds fancy} brings your table to life!
This year I added individual mini pies as part of the tablescape!
It’s pretty and well you can eat it hehe. It’s really the best of both worlds.
How To Keep Your Copper Shiny
While I've had copper pieces for years now, this is the first time I'm using them in a tablescape and I love it!
The shine and warmth copper adds just elevated the look of my tablescape this year.
If you're like me and love the look of copper. Just know some pieces might tarnish, depending on the finish {much like brass}.
But, don't worry this product was recommended to me and works wonders!

I wish you and your family have a very happy Thanksgiving this year friends!

It's refreshing to see a table dressed up for fall not in orange and well, traditional fall color's. I love it. You managed with the copper to still keep it warm and very inviting. May your family be blessed now and forever more.

Hey Edna, thanks for the sweet comment. I wish the same for your family! 💙 Also, while I don't have anything against traditional fall colors, I prefer neutral fall decor as well! 😉

Hello Linda. Just beautiful--as always. For many years, I was a green person; couldn't get enough of it. Then, over the past year and a half, I gravitated toward blue and I am in love. Your home has so many touches of calming blue, and I love it. The feather plates are incredible and so unique. Thank you for sharing your many talents with us. I am so glad I found your site about a month ago. I return to it often. Enjoy your thanksgiving.

Hi Margie! I'm so glad you're here and are finding some inspiration! 😊
While I do like green a lot, there's just something about blue. 💙
It's so easy to work with because you can pair it with so many different colors, like green. I did that in my living room makeover https://thehomeicreate.com/living-room-and-dining-room-orc-reveal/ 👍🏾
Hope to "see" you again soon! Happy Thanksgiving.

Chrisi, thank you so much! I was on the fence about using the throw as a tablecloth but I'm glad I did!
