Hey friends!  Sometimes a project falls in your lap out of nowhere and it comes together so easily that you just have to share it! This super easy DIY bird Halloween costume is one of those projects!

Kayla and I were at Target browsing through their newest kids clothing line Cat and Jack when we spotted this lovely and whimsical tulle cape! Kayla literally squealed when she saw it and immediately asked to try it on. So try it on we did, and she shouted  "I look like a like a colorful bird" {gotta love the wonderful imagination that children have!}.

*Update 8/29/17 - Target has sold out of the colorful capes. BUT! I have 2 awesome replacement options for you.

These wings sold as a party favor at Target has a similar vibrant look as the original cape I used for a fraction of the cost!

This white and gold version of the wings I used would make a gorgeous regal or snowy owl/bird costume like the beautiful photo below! Just use white and/or gold feathers {linked below} for the mask instead of the pink ones!

From there the idea of a DIY bird Halloween costume just snowballed! We created an easy DIY bird mask {video tutorial below} to pair with the cape and easy peasy we had a beautiful and SUPER easy Halloween costume!

Plus she can wear the cape long after Halloween has come and gone!

This is such a beautiful costume Linda. It reminds me of the costumes they make for the Carnival in other parts of the world. So lovely and colorful!

Mary you literally hit the nail on the head! Growing up in the islands this absolutely reminded me of the beautiful carnival costumes the ladies would wear. Always appreciate you stopping by Mary!

That is absolutely adorable! I honestly prefer simple costumes, and even more costumes that can be used outside of Halloween! Great thinking! 🙂 Lisa

I love this costume! I'm going to show it to my seven year old as this is up her very picky Halloween costume alley. Love that cape; an excuse to run to Target today!! Visiting from The Crafty Corner party.
