Hey friends! Today I'm sharing how to make this super easy DIY throw pillow covers using inexpensive napkins. I got my napkins on sale $2.69 each, so that's technically less than $6 for two gorgeous pillows!
When I was working on updating my back porch for fall, I went to World Market looking for a tablecloth and came across one that I loved! The colors and beautiful floral design were so spot on, it was as if it was created just for me LOL. Sadly as often is the case when you find the perfect thing, they did not sell it for round tables, which is what I have.
I love this fabric so much and the colors were so spot on for my porch, that I had to find a way to use it!
When the lady pointed me towards the runners and napkins in the same fabric, I immediately grabbed two of the napkins. I made my very first set of pillows for my daughter's room using a shower curtain, so why not a napkin, right?! Here's how I did it!

Materials
A napkin of your choice - I used the Blue Palampore Anika napkin from World Market it measures 20 x 20.
Coordinating fabric for the backing - If you want the design on both sides, use two napkins.
Pillow insert - I used a 20" x 20" down pillow {my favorites are these from Ikea}.
*Stitch Witchery or Fabric glue- If you want to make a no-sew version.
Easy DIY Throw Pillow Covers Using Napkins!
1 - Cut the fabric for your backing to match the dimension of your napkin, in my case 20" x 20"
2 - Iron your napkins and fabric
3 - Line up your napkin and the backing fabric, making sure to have the right sides facing each other {so it looks inside out}.
4 - Sew a straight seam on three sides {as close to the existing seam on the napkin as possible}, leaving the fourth side open to slide in your pillow.
* If you prefer a no sew version, you can use fabric tape or fabric glue to close the three sides following the manufacturer's directions.
5 - Now it was time to add the velcro. I followed the instructions and adhered both sides of my velcro to the throw pillow cover.
Note: Since I used only leftover velcro I already had on hand for this project I winged it because I figured these pillows were just going outside on the porch. If I was going to buy velcro specifically for this project, I would have gone with white or even beige. Plus I would have use one long piece of velcro that span the entire length of the opening verses using cut up pieces like I did.
6 - Now just turn your sew simple {see what I did there} DIY throw pillow cover right side out, slide your pillow insert in and you're done!
Although the finished throw pillow cover was more like 19" x 19", I still used a 20″ x 20″ pillow insert so the pillows would have a nice full look.
This was my first time using cloth napkins to make DIY throw pillow covers, and it was just the easiest project. Next time I think I will use two napkins per pillow instead of one, eliminating the need to measure and cut any fabric.
In the end, I'm glad they did not have the tablecloth because I love the pillows so much! They were so easy to make and now I'm excited to possibly make a few more for the upcoming holidays!
