    Easy Kids Closet Organization

    dddd

Hello friends! Welcome to my first before and after post for operation home organization {O.H.O}!

    Easy Kids Closet Organization

I'm excited to share with you my steps for easy kids closet organization! My daughters closet went from overflowing {just look at that before picture below! ?} to organized and functional in no time!

This is one of the first projects I tackled on my O.H.O list, because this closet was completely out of control!

Too small, too big, summer, and winter clothes were all mixed together. Not to mention the odds and ends that managed to find its way in there.

And her dresser drawers were no better...

    DSC_0326 copy

Trying to get her dress for school, or even simply putting away laundry had become a huge headache.

I have to admit I dreaded tackling this project at first, but to my surprise once I got started it really wasn't so bad.

With a few easy steps, what was a jumbled mess is now a functional, organized, and not to mention pretty space! Plus, the cost was minimal {$30 total} thanks to using mostly things I already owned.

Below is a quick break down of the basic steps I took to tackle her closet. These steps can be applied to any closet you have that's "organizationally challenged".

    1 - Empty closet

    2 -  Sort clothes

3 - Organize remaining clothes and accessories

    The details...

My first step was emptying out the closet completely {this is a good time to dust, vacuum, etc…}. It's really important to take everything out, so you have a clean slate to work with!

Once the closet was empty, I realized how much wasted space there was!

By moving Kayla's dresser into the closet. Along with purchasing some inexpensive fabric bins {$20}, and a closet rod {$10}. I was able to take advantage of what would otherwise be wasted space. Making the closet more functional without having to invest in anything permanent {we are renters after all}.

I also used this wall rack I got from HomeGoods years ago to help keep things like her dance bag, hats, and even her robe off the floor!

    DSC_0333 copy3

Next, I sorted. I divided her clothes into four piles {modify this to work for your situation}. Keep, donate, consign, and trash.

Once I was done sorting, it was time to organize the items that made the cut!

The first thing I tackled was her out of season clothing. You can see below just how many summer clothes was mixed in with her winter clothes {no wonder her closet was overflowing!}.

    DSC_0333 copy

I used three bins to store her out of season clothing, and one bin for clothes that are too small or too big. Once the weather gets warm I can easily rotate out her clothes, and just adjust the chalk labels accordingly.

Kayla and I decided the green bins I had on hand weren't cutting it in the looks department for her closet. I decided to save them for my son's closet makeover, and opted for these pink and white Mainstay fabric bins from Walmart instead.

At this point I only have the clothes that Kayla will wear now to organize.

Pjs, underwear's, socks, tights, and "play" clothes all went into the dresser.  I used the Skubb drawer organizers from Ikea to help keep her underwear, tights and socks drawer stay neat.

    DSC_0307 copy3

From there I hung up the remainder of her clothes, separating them by tops and bottoms. I also hung her tops by color and type {sweaters, long sleeves, and short sleeves}.

Now getting dressed for school have become a breeze! Plus, its easy to see the gaps in her wardrobe. Clearly a few new dresses and skirts are in order ?.

With help from my tiny sidekick, we also purged and organized her small beauty products and play jewelry.

A glass tiered tray from Ikea that I already owned, was perfect  for corralling  and displaying her smaller items like nail polish and lip gloss. I love the color they add to the space!

For a pretty touch, I styled her dresser with a cute frame print {that I shared on  Instagram is actually a birthday card}, some fresh flowers, and a bust that doubles as a necklace holder.

I'm so thrilled with the results y'all, and it only took a few easy steps and cost very little! I can't wait to give the same treatment to our other closets!

It feels really good to check off one of the bigger tasks of my "operation home organization" list!

Thank you Carli! I'm a little jealous of her closet myself ?. I love the the size of her closet but her room isn't the biggest and I wish they had added the space to her room instead. ?
