This $15 thrifted faux bamboo mirror is big and beautiful, but it didn't start out that way!
Wayyy back in 2015, I was on the hunt for a large mirror to put over my fireplace.
After weeks of consistently looking I still had no luck finding a large mirror that was within my budget.

Of course, once you stop looking for something is it always when you seem to find it. Right?
So naturally when I decided to stop and check out a random thrift store, there it was.
An amazing almost 4-foot tall faux bamboo mirror for only $15! Cue the violins and heart eyes 😍.
Ok ok, I know it doesn't look so amazing in this photo, but for $15 it was worth buying you guys.
Plus, I had a good feeling that with a few coats of paint this mirror could make a beautiful statement piece!
Thrifted Faux Bamboo Mirror Makeover
First I covered the mirror with paper to protect it from getting paint on it.
I'm sure some super legit DIY{er} would have taken it apart. But this mirror is old. The screws are rusted. And truthfully speaking ain't nobody got time for that LOL.
I also gave the mirror a good wipe down to get rid of any dust and grime.
Next, I grabbed a can of my favorite spray gold spray paint and moved the mirror outside to start spraying.
Always use spray paint in a well-ventilated area.
3 light coats of spray paint later and you would hardly believe it was the same mirror. It looks amazing in the gold color!
Once painted I hung it over the fireplace and my thrifty heart sang because I love how it looked so much, especially given the $15 price tag!
Ultimately though I did have to switch it out for another mirror. Due to the height of the mirror, most of the reflection was of our unattractive ceiling fan.
Although it did not work in the living room, I was excited to pull it out again for my master bedroom makeover for the One Room Challenge.
Honestly, this amazing faux bamboo mirror looks even better in my bedroom because it pairs up so well with the painted campaign dresser {also thrifted!}.
Plus, the reflection is so much nicer this time around. You can see more photos in my master bedroom decor update post.
Thinking back on it, the situation was very amusing when I brought this mirror. You could tell the seller was giddy that someone was actually buying it.
And I was so happy that I got this amazing faux bamboo mirror for only $15!
More proof that one man's trash is truly another man's treasure.

You do such amazing work with those thrift store finds, Linda! What a great transformation. I never cease to be amazed what a difference a little bit of paint can make. This looks like something you'd find at a pricey, high-end store!
