Hey friends! If you follow me on Instagram, you might have caught my Instagram Stories recently where I gave you a sneak peak of this vintage faux bamboo sideboard makeover.

I looove faux bamboo furniture, especially vintage pieces. So when I found this vintage faux bamboo Drexel sideboard at a killer price, I couldn't let it slip through my fingers!
I actually shared the very moment I found it on Instagram way back in March, and it's been sitting in my garage ever since.
Do you want to know a secret? Although I love to give pieces with good bones like this faux bamboo sideboard a new lease on life, I actually don't particularly like painting ?. But, I grin and bear it, because the outcome is usually worth it.
So when HomeRight sent me one of their Finish Max sprayer and Spray Shelter I couldn't wait to put them to use!
My neglected faux bamboo sideboard was the perfect piece to try it out on. As I planned on using it to update my coffee station for the holiday season.
HomeRight graciously provided me with one of their paint sprayers to review. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links. Purchasing through them helps support this website. You can view my disclosure policy HERE.
For a vintage piece, this faux bamboo sideboard was in really good condition. It was also very dirty and discolored, and the hardware had also lost its luster.
Needless to say, some TLC in the form of paint was definitely needed to bring this piece to its former glory!
After removing the hardware and giving this piece several wipe downs. I sprayed it with two coats of primer. This was my very first time using the HomeRight Finish Max Sprayer {or any sprayer for that matter}, so I decided to use it only for paint this time.
Now had I realized how easy it would be to clean the Finish Max Sprayer {more on that later}, I would've used it for the primer too!
Painting With The HomeRight Finish Max Sprayer
Step 1 - Set up your HomeRight Sprayer Shelter
The first step was setting up my HomeRight Spray Shelter. I was able to put this together in about 10-12 minutes by myself. It wasn't hard, just awkward at points {totally worth it though}. The Spray Shelter is really large. There's plenty of room to move around inside even with a large project like this one. Plus, there is this really handy mesh cover to protect your project when it's drying.
My yard is sloped, so painting outside for me is not really an option. Having the shelter to protect all the "stuff" we keep in the garage. Leaving me worry free when working on a project.
Step 2 - Thin your paint
The next step after I set up the Spray Shelter was to thin the paint.
I used standard white latex paint and thinned it out with water using the directions that came with the sprayer.
Along with the sprayer, you also get a viscosity cup that helps you determine if your paint is thin enough to spray with, or if it even needs thinning in the first place.
The process was pretty straightforward. So far so good.
Step 3 - Paint
Once my paint was thin enough, it was time to spray! I was equal parts nervous and excited about this step.
One of the things I really like about this sprayer is that its basically plug and go once you've thinned your paint. The only other step I took before I started spraying was to adjust the nozzle {you can have it spray vertically, horizontally, or even at a 45-degree angle}.
I started out by spraying the back of my faux bamboo sideboard first, just in case I messed things up while getting the hang of using the sprayer.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the HomeRight Finish Max sprayer was really intuitive and easy to use! The paint came out evenly and I was sure to use continuing sweeping motions, overlapping the paint a bit as I went along {similar to when you're using spray paint}.
You guys I finished my first coat of paint so quickly, I was a bit stunned ?! Once the first coat of paint was dry, I sprayed on a second thin coat of paint and I was done.
I mean we are talking about a piece with all that bamboo detailing that would've taken me close to an hour {at the minimum} to paint. But, I was done in like 10 minutes! Say what?!
So yeah this girl who doesn't love to paint very much but love making over furniture was sold on the HomeRight Finish Max sprayer!
Step 4 - Clean up
Even the clean-up was easy. {And truth be told, I was nervous about this part too.}I cleaned out the container with just water and a few paper towels.
{If you were using oil-based paint. You would have to use something like mineral spirits.}
Next, fill it with water and attached it back to the sprayer. Then spray the water out until it comes out clean. I let the pieces dry before putting them away.
No rollers, paintbrushes, or even paint trays to worry about. Can I get an amen!
The After
So are you ready to see the bamboo sideboard restored back to its former glory?
The top slides apart to provide extra surface space, how awesome is that?! The hardware got its shine back courtesy of some gold spray paint.
I used some pretty shelf liner on the top, in the drawer, and on the shelves.
I'm loving my new coffee station and how this unique piece looks in my breakfast nook!
The plan is to add some shelves above it, for mostly display purposes LOL.
I'm sooo happy I found a product that can give me a smooth professional finish on my makeovers in less time while being easy to use!
No super complicated instructions. You just thin your paint, plug in your sprayer, and you're good to go!
With the help of the Finish Max sprayer I painted both my campaign dresser and the nightstands in my master bedroom makeover in a fraction of the time it would've taken me otherwise.
Still can't get over how easy this sprayer is to use. I want to #painteverything now!
I would love to know if any of you use a paint sprayer for your DIY projects? Let me know in the comments below.
Thanks for stopping by, see you next time!
