This large DIY bulletin board is not only functional. But seriously super easy and cheap to make!
Hey hey, so we are nearing the finished line friends for the $100 Room Challenge. Where I'm working to transform my daughter Kayla's room from a cluttered mess to a space that's pretty and organized.
Weekly progress posts ---> Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Reveal

Speaking of organized, when we left off last week I shared how I organized all her arts and crafts supplies using mostly Dollar Store storage and some DIY labels.
BTW Kayla has put her craft organization through the wringer last week and it's working out great!!!
Now let's talk about this bulletin board.
I did not realize growing out of a bulletin board was something that could happen, but my art-loving daughter has proven that it is!
The bulletin board Kayla had in her room is a DIY Pottery Barn inspired pinboard I created using
While it still looks great. It's way too small for her display needs.
So I created this large DIY bulletin board for just over $20 to display Kayla's masterpieces!
Let me show you how! It's so easy I would say anyone can do it even if you're a beginner DIY{er}.
Large DIY Bulletin Board
Supplies:
Foam board insulation {cut to your desired size, mine is 4'x3'}
Fabric {I used an old tablecloth}
Brass thumbtacks
Duct Tape
Scissors
After doing my Googles {that’s how the kids are saying it now LOL}.
I learned that foam board insulation is fantastic for making bulletin boards!
They come in huge thick 8’ x 4’ feet sheets. I had mine cut at the store into {2} 4' x 3' and {1} 4’x2’ pieces.
*Unless you have a van or order it online. You will need to have it cut in store so it can fit in your car.
Foam board insulation is very affordable! Expect to pay anywhere between $10-$15 depending on the brand. But you can create several projects with one sheet!
Also, they are super light {Kayla who’s tiny could hold up an entire 8’ x 4’ sheet by herself}.
Large DIY Bulletin Board Instructions
Now that you have the foam board insulation in your desired size, let's move on to the fabric.
If your fabric is already the size you need, skip this step.
Lay your fabric good side down and place the foam board insulation on top of it and cut it to size leaving roughly 8 inches of extra fabric to wrap around and secure it.
Once you've got your fabric cut to size, you will need to iron it. Don't skip this step, it won't look cute if your finished product is wrinkled 😆.
Now you will repeat the same step as before.
Lay your fabric down good side down again. Smoothing it out to get rid of any wrinkles or bumps in the fabric, before placing the foam board insulation on top of it.
Using the duck tape start taping the fabric down.
To make sure my fabric was taut.
I had my daughter hold and pull on one side, while I pulled and tapped the opposite side.
Once that's done it's time to add the thumbtacks. I just eyeballed it.
Also, it did not take nearly as long as I thought it would {maybe 20 minutes}.
To hang it, I nailed it into the wall in all four corners. To cover up the nail I just placed a thumbtack over it.
It's so light that command strips would probably work well also.
And that's it! It took less than an hour from start to finish!
As you can see this large DIY bulletin board was super easy to make and perfect for any beginner DIY{er}.
Kayla could not wait to start pinning stuff to her board.
This board is very large 4 x 3 feet and Kayla said might need a bigger one soon LOL.

$100 ROOM CHALLENGE REVEAL PLANS
We've made a lot of changes in the past several weeks. In addition to cleaning out and organizing this room
However, I still have this side of the room to make pretty.
As you can see from week 1 we've changed the layout. The room feels so much bigger and brighter now that the bed is not in front of the window.
We also moved the rug that was in our formal living room to Kayla's room.
We plan on getting a more neutral rug for that space.
Be sure to come back next for the full reveal!
Now check out what the other $100 Room Challenge participants are working on for week 4 below!

Never would have guessed...foam board. Hmm, the ideas are just simmering as to what I could do with this. Love easy, fast, and pretty DIY projects so I am thinking we need something similar in our office or maybe my craft room...perhaps the bathroom to hang jewelry. Oh. My! I bet your daughter is just loving how her room is being transformed. What fun!
