Hello friends!
Whew! Another One Room Challenge {ORC} is in the can and this one might just be my favorite {I feel like I say that every time LOL}!
This time around I tackled my "formal" living room and connecting dining room.
And I'm so excited to share the big reveal with you today!
If you are new here, welcome! I'm so glad you stopped by. You can catch up with the good, the bad, and the ugly from previous weeks using the links below.

Our living room and dining room has come a long way since week 1.
After moving into our new home recently, our living and dining room became a dumping ground for everything that we didn't have a place for yet.
Remember the tragic before? Here it is one more time if you missed it the first time around {still super embarassing}.
In week 2 I shared my design plans.
A classic yet colorful and vibrant family-friendly living and dining room.
Although I made a few different design decisions along the way, the vibe is still the same.
Fresh and colorful and grounded with classic pieces. Like the English roll arm sofa, white slipcovered chairs, and trestle dining room table.
Let's take a look around the living room since that's the first room right off the entryway.
Our newly painted black front door get's an honorary mention since I just painted it specifically for this makeover.
Although it's called a "formal" living room I did not want it to feel formal at all.
Just a little more button up than our family room, but with just as much comfort.
If you read my week 5 update, you know I planned on using my tobacco leaf lamp in this corner. However, I could not find a harp long enough. I was so lucky to find this amazing ceramic lamp for $10 at the thrift store last Friday.
Luck was also on my side when I came across this vintage side table at the thrift store! It was in perfect condition and the perfect size to tuck in this small corner.
I don’t really care for themed rooms but I do love the fact that I get to display a lot of my vintage Chinoiserie style pieces that I’ve collected over the years.
Remember those dated ginger jars I painted white in week 4? They fit in seamlessly with my existing blue and white pieces!
I did not shy away from using color and pattern for this makeover.
I pulled all the colors for both rooms from the rug, which is one of the first things I purchased for space.
My big splurge for the living room is 2 small pillows I ordered from Etsy made with Schumacher's hothouse flower fabric.
This fabric is over $160 a yard so yeah not cheap, but it was worth it. The colors tie in perfectly with the rug.
Ok, let's make our way to the dining room.
Since these two rooms are connected, I used the same color palette in both spaces to tie it together.
The previous chandelier was dark and heave and this one is a lot more streamlined.
The gold pagoda style candle holders is another thrift score from a few years ago.
While I'm glad I did not paint my vintage bamboo cabinet, I love the look of my freshly painted vintage bamboo chairs.
Coupled with the custom made cushions and inexpensive throw pillows {only $12!}, they add the perfect pop of color to the dining room.
To bring in even more color and interest above the white bamboo chairs, are an art and mirror pairing.
This look of the chair, art, and mirror is repeated on the other side of the window as well.
If you couldn't tell I really love symmetry. It makes everything feels orderly and intentional to me.
The vintage bamboo cabinet I scored for the low low a couple months ago when we first moved here is the crowning jewel of the dining room.
I’ve never had a display cabinet {hutch} in the dining room before and I love being able to display my pretty dishes.
I got the colorful dishes from an antique mall for $50 for the whole set years ago. If you look closely they’re actually the exact color palette I’m using. Blues and whites, oranges, greens, and touches of golden yellow.
Actually, most of the pieces in both the living room and dining room are things already owned for years now.
Which is why I subscribe to the theory when you buy what you love versus what's trendy, it will always work.
Knowing that I think is what makes these two rooms work so well and why I love them so much.
Although this wasn’t a major renovation it was still a lot of work the last five week and the results exceeded my expectations for these two spaces.
A big thank you to Linda for hosting the One Room Challenge, without it chances are my living room and dining room would still look like the horrid before pictures.
Thanks for stopping by friends! Don't forget to check out the other Guest Participants big reveal.

Linda, I love all your pops of color and how they all work together. The big floral fabric on the white bamboo chairs is awesome. The dishes (what a find!) pull everything together. The room is so light and bright and feels happy. Congrats.

I loved your photos. I love blue and white myself. Thank you. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more in the future. I love decorating my home. It is so satisfying. What would you suggest - should I put something at the top of the kitchen cupboards, there is a gap between the top of the cupboards and the ceiling, about 30cm. I am not keen on dust collectors and for me 'less is more' so maybe not a good idea. so what do you think?
Thanks again. Cheryl

Hi Susie, yeah I figured if I didn't get both rooms done at once there's no telling when I would get the other one done {procrastinating is my supper power LOL}. Thanks for your sweet comment, and I appreciate you stopping by!
Lisa Daly says
Everything looks wonderful! And I appreciate the chinoiserie theme - it doesn't take over completely. What is the source for the lucite curtain rod? Nice touch.
Linda P. says
Thanks Lisa! I really had to edit myself because I can definitely go overboard sometimes.
The lucite rods where a very lucky find from HomeGoods. I found them in January and have never seen them again sadly. I do know that Etsy is a good source ----> http://bit.ly/2rHI1Dp {affiliate link}.
Thanks for visiting!

So gorgeous! I love you drapes, and what a fantastic price!! My master bedroom is in desperate need of an update. It's still sporting SW Blonde on the walls and dark furniture. Thinking I may purchase these drapes and use blues and creams and gold in the update.
Linda P. says
Thank you so much! It took me well over a decade to finally switch out my dark furniture and give my master bedroom a makeover, so I say go for it! You can see my bedroom reveal below.
