Hey friends! The living room and dining room is coming along for week 3 of the One Room Challenge {ORC}.
Catch up: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Reveal
Alright, we have progress!
Like I shared in week 1 World Market’s Shelton sofa was not my first choice. But! I'm so happy that's the one I ended up with because it looks so good in this room.
I love that it has the tight back, which will keep things looking neat, versus the slipcovered sofa, I originally wanted.
The rug is one of the first things I ordered when I decided to participate in the ORC, and it finally arrived.
I was super nervous because I built the whole look of the living room and dining room around this rug without seeing in person first {I don't recommend this}. So if the colors were off it would've thrown the whole design out of whack.
Luckily it's perfect! A beautiful combination of blue with beautiful pops of color that are saturated yet soft at the same time.
Last week I was Goldilocks and this week I'm playing musical chairs.
Remember in week 2 of the ORC update I shared my design plans for the living and dining room, which included the Oscar wingback chair from World Market.
Well, there's been a change of plans.
I'm actually using our Ikea Jennylund armchair that was in our family room, in the living room now.
The glass table is also going into the living room. I purchased a round table to go in here, which will work much better with our sectional.
It's not that I didn't like the Oscar wingback chair, I do. But I had reservations about the gray color.
While sitting in the family room one day I look across and it dawned on me that our Jennylund armchair with its small scale might just fit perfectly in the small corner in the living room.
I immediately jumped up and carried it into the living and just as I thought, it was a perfect fit.
I was also lucky enough to find a brand new Blekinge White slipcover {sadly discontinued} on eBay.
I've been looking for that cover since it's Ikea discontinued it years ago, and to find it at this exact moment told me I made the right decision.
The Blekinge White slipcover will tie in nicely with the dining chairs, whos slipcovers will also be Blekinge White.
If you're wondering about the now empty corner in the family room. Well, in addition to buying the Shelton sofa, I also purchased the matching Shelton English roll arm chair. Which is now in the family room.
The Shelton English roll arm chair is big and comfy. The larger scale looks much better in the family room. {Our family room will have its own makeover post at some point so be on the lookout for that}.
Not a whole lot happened on the dining room side.
Although I did order the light fixture and dropped off some fabric at the upholsterer to make cushions for the bamboo chairs.
Oh, and after talking it over with hubby we decided not to paint the faux bamboo chinoiserie cabinet. I'm not saying we'll never paint it but for now, we agreed to leave it as is. I hope in the end I don't regret this decision.
Week 4 to do list:
~Finalize window treatments
~Makeover bamboo chairs
~Hang window hardware
~Start pulling together accessories for styling
~Finalize artwork
~Keep looking for a small wood side table
It's so exciting to see the living room and dining room starting unfold and take shape.
Join me next week for another round of updates!
Thanks for stopping by friends! Don't forget to check out the other Guest Participants week 3 progress.

Wow!! You are amazing, Linda! You picked out that rug without ever really seeing it and it is absolutely gorgeous!! Your sofa is beautiful and it appears to be so practical as well! And the chair that matches is not only pretty but it looks so comfy and cozy! Who is that little precious snuggled down in there?! Good choice on both!
Your room is already on the road to being lovely! It's so much fun to start fresh with "new", isn't it?!!
Thanks again, Linda, for a warm welcome into your lovely home!

I adore the bamboo cabinet in its original wood. I am by no means a purist when it comes to painting wood but I think you and your husband made the right move to not paint it. also want to say I am crazy about that new rug! You Have a beautiful style and I'm looking forward to see how it all comes Together.

Thanks so much Shelley! I just can't believe we're in week 4 already! The cabinet is a vintage Thomasville faux bamboo hutch. I purchased it at a local antique mall. Hope that helps.
