I was so excited to discover historic Marietta Square Farmers Market, a hidden gem right in my backyard!
Now that September is in full swing, everything is pointing towards fall.
Even my yard already looks like it could use a good raking!
So the family and I are trying to make the most of this last bit of summer by getting out and enjoying the local attractions in our community.
This past weekend we had a great time at historic Marietta Square Farmers Market. And I thought I would share some of the highlights with you guys.
Ok, confession time. We've lived in Georgia now for a little over 8 months and we've yet to really explore around town. {Although I can tell you where all the Homegoods and Targets are hehe}.
Which is why we're just getting around to visiting a nice family friendly area that's right in our backyard, historic Marietta Square.
Marietta Square Farmers Market
After a google search, Marietta’s Square year-round farmers market is touted as Atlanta’s #1 farmers market.
I can't co-sign that just yet.
We went on a Sunday and we were told there is usually about twice as many vendors on Saturdays. Which means a lot more people.
As someone who doesn't like crowds having fewer vendors and people was fine with me.
I tell my kids all the time there is always something new to learn. This weekend I learned what a muscadine is {a type of grape}. Literally never heard of it before {I blame my NY upbringing LOL}.
The "funny" thing is it started to pour down rain out of nowhere while we were exploring the farmer's market. A very kind vendor Devine Soups n More let us and huddle under her tent.
While there we had no choice but to try the soup, right? And man was it good! We ended up buying the fish chowder because oh meh gosh, the flavor was just out of this world!
The sweet potato soup and guiltless chili was a very close second.
What We Ate
While we're on the subject of tasty food, we had brunch at Sugar Cakes Patisserie.
Let me tell you, we're already planning our next trip!
When we got there they were really busy with a 20-30 wait. However, we were able to leave and check out the farmers market while we waited. Once our table was ready we got a text.
Both Jaden and hubby ordered the build your own breakfast option and was very very pleased with their food.
I ordered the shrimp an grits that came with 2 fried eggs cooked to order on top. Let me tell you something, I've had a lot of shrimp and grits and this was by far the best!
Everything we ordered was fantastic! Although they were busy, the service was great.
Also, I have it on good authority their hot chocolate is way better than Starbucks LOL.
What We Saw
After brunch, we went back to the farmers market and looked around the square a bit more to walk off some of that good eats we just had at Sugar Cakes.
Also to enjoy each other's company and the nice weather {the sun was out again in full force}.
And there was lot's to see. So many fun little specialty shops, theaters, murals and more. A nice blend of old and new.
I couldn't help take a photo of this cute little guy, the kids were in love with him.
All in all, it was a fun few hours with the family and we discovered a little gem right in our own backyard!
I know this topic was a bit different than what I usually post but I hope you enjoyed it anyway.
Thank you for visiting! Have a wonderful week!
