Speaking of weekly progress posts. If you're a regular reader of the blog you might have noticed I did not have a week 4 update. Well, I realized that my week 4 update would've shown too much of the finished space {I mean it is a closet after all}.
But nothing's stopping us now, so let's take a look at the finished space.
This closet started out as a slightly larger than usual coat closet.
Now it's a cheerful and functional mudroom in a closet!
Like I shared in week 1, our new home {that we've only been in for a month} does not have a mudroom, unlike our previous house.
This made me determined to carve out a spot where we could keep our day to day necessities {shoes, book bags, jackets, keys, etc...} without it being on display to anyone and everyone who comes to our home.
Although this closet is not huge 3" x 3 ¾", it's big enough to function perfectly as a mudroom.
In week 2 I was holding my breath to see if one of the two Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinets I have would fit in the closet. It did and that's when I knew I could move on with this project.
This super slim shoe cabinet from Ikea ensures there's no pile of shoes in the entryway {although I'm sure my kids are going to put that theory to the test}. The faux marble top {contact paper} and numbered knobs was an easy Ikea hack I did for my last mudroom.
On the other wall. I took advantage of the vertical space with high and low hooks. The kids can easily reach the lower hooks, so no excuses for not hanging up their stuff.
Unfortunately, this closet did not have any lighting, but it did have an outlet! So I installed a white gold and black wall sconce, that use to be in Jaden's room in our last house.
The 3 seagrass baskets from Target hold things like our hats and gloves. While the black wall basket is a great spot for our sunglasses.
A small mirror from Target's One Spot is perfect for a last look before heading out the door.
To make this "mudroom" even more functional I added a pinboard and metal wall organizer.
The touches of pink and turquoise add the perfect pop of color to this otherwise neutral black & white, and gold color scheme.
Admittedly this was not a huge project. But, it's one that will be very useful to my family. Not only is this closet functional but also pretty with inexpensive finds.

This looks perfect! I am so happy to see that a closet can function as a mudroom, because we are moving to a house without a mudrrom and I feel like I'm really going to miss it. The new house does, however, have a huge closet, so I'll be trying my hand at using it for a mudroom. Thanks for sharing your beautiful space with us. So happy to have you join in for another round of the challenge (and a month after moving!)
