Hey friends! Welcome to week 2 of the of the $100 room challenge. Like I shared last week I'm attempting to create a mudroom in a closet because our new house does not have one.
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 {Reveal}
You guys I'm telling you if the shoes and jackets piling up in the entryway is any indication, we needed this mudroom closet like yesterday! In hindsight, I totally didn't appreciate our old mudroom enough.
Ok, let's get into this weeks update. The big news for this week, my existing Ikea shoe cabinet fits in the closet perfectly! When hubby sent me a text showing that it fits in the closet. I was at the store and my shout of joy may or may not have gotten me some weird stares LOL.
I was so worried it wouldn't fit, and apparently, I had a good reason. The fit is so exact, I mean you couldn’t even slide a piece of paper between the wall and the cabinet.
On a side note, I want to add some color in here. I think a small rug in a fun color would be a great way to do that!
One of the best parts of living in Atlanta now is having an Ikea less than 30 minutes away! This past Sunday we took a family field trip to Ikea, and I found these hooks.
They are everything I was looking for. Since the space is so small I wanted hooks that didn't stick out too much or have a sharp edge {in case we bump into it}. Plus, the $12.99 price tag didn't hurt either. The only thing I'm on the fence about is whether I should paint the wood or not.

After combing through several boxes {seriously my house is drowning in moving boxes, send help}, I found the pinboard and paper organizer from our old mudroom.
I think the paper organizer will work wonderfully behind the door. Although, I want to paint it a lighter color.
As far as the pinboard, it fits as well. And while I love the idea of having somewhere to keep papers I want to see at a glance. Like my monthly calendar, field trip forms, etc... I also think using my existing round gold round mirror {affilaite link} would also work since it would help open up the space a bit. I'm still not sure which one to go with #firstworldproblems.
Although it doesn’t necessarily look like it, I made good progress this week. I Now have all my major pieces and can move forward with tackling some small DIY projects.
Total Budget: $100
Spent
$26 | Hooks {2}
Remaining = $74
Plans:
Week 2: Gather and purchase major pieces {hooks, shoe cabinet. etc...}
Week 3: Decide on pinboard vs. mirror, paint paper organizer, hang hooks, and source a small colorful rug.
Week 4: Add final touches and decor.
See you next week for another progress update!
Also, let me know what you think, are you team pinboard or mirror over the shoe cabinet?

Those hooks you found are awesome!!! I love that you can label them (not that my kids would adhere to their label, but it sure would make ME feel better 🙂 I am SO glad your shoe cabinet fits in there so perfectly! And I have that same wire paper organizer (love it!) Also LOVING the idea of adding the rug for some color. This space is going to be amazing!

I vote for the pinboard, way more functional than the mirror. I love the shoe cubbie! I need one of those.

I love what you've done so far, and I love the rug idea. I wish we lived closer to an IKEA but that would probably get me in a lot of trouble!
