    Mudroom In A Closet - $100 Room Makeover Week 3

    Hey friends! I'm glad your back to check out week 3 of the $100 Room Challenge! If you're just jumping in, you can click below to see the previous weeks.

    Week 1 | Week 2 |  Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 {Reveal}

    $100 Room Challenge Logo

    This week is the most excited I've been about this closet mudroom makeover. It feels so good to see my spur of the moment idea of turning our coat closet into a mudroom really starting to come together!

    How to turn a small closet into a mudroom.

    Last week was all about finding the right pieces. This week I focused my efforts on painting and hanging everything up.

    The Ikea wall hooks I scored last week for only $12 each got a coat of white paint! The black hooks and the white wood combo looks so fresh. The hooks also have these slots, so you can label each hook.

    The other piece I painted is the paper organizer. When you saw it last it was very rustic looking. A few quick coats of gold spray paint and you can barely recognize it.

    I plan on using command hooks to hang it inside of the closet door.

    After going back and forth over using pinboard or mirror in the closet. I decided the pinboard would more functional for our family in here. With the addition of the paper organizer, this space will be a mudroom and command center {win-win}.

    I painted the frame white to go with the rest of the space. A little bit of paint did get on the fabric but I'm actually ok with it {for now}. I'm thinking I will cover it with a different fabric in the future.

    Mudroom Closet Command Station

    Last but not least I also added some much-needed lighting in here, which was not part of my original plan. Every time I walked into this closet I would instinctively touch the wall looking for a switch, only to be frustrated when I remember there isn't one.

    When I noticed there was a plug behind the shoe cabinet I was beyond excited {insert me dancing awkwardly with joy}. A plug meant I can put a light in here!

    Plus, I already had the perfect one on hand {insert even more awkward dancing hehe}. The wall sconce that was in Jaden's room in our last house. It works perfectly because it incorporates the black, white, and gold color scheme I'm going.

    Mudroom Closet Ikea Wall Lamp

    Remember last week when I said I wanted to bring in some color with the addition of a small rug? Well, I found some great options at World Market. I didn't buy one because I want to look around some more, but these are definitely on the right track.

    World Market Boho Rugs

    Also, I spent no money this week, because I already had the paint and wall light on hand {woot}!

    Total  Budget: $100

    Spent

    $26 | Hooks {2}

    Remaining = $74

    Plans:

    Week 2: Gather and purchase major pieces {hooks, shoe cabinet. etc...}

    Week 3: Decide on pinboard vs. mirror, paint paper organizer, hang hooks, and source a small colorful rug.

    Week 4: Add final touches and decor.

    Week 5: The big reveal!

    See you next week for another progress update!

      florence, that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid since the kids {and sometimes us adults too} have a dependency to just stuff in the closet. Thanks for stopping by!

      Sounds like you have a great idea turning the closet into a mudroom! That way, since it's out in the open, you may not have the tendency to shove stuff in and forget it, like I would. Love those hooks and especially your rug choices.
