Hey friends! I’m back with another fun DIY project from Kayla’s big girl bedroom makeover! This glam vintage office chair makeover was an easy project using gold spray paint and faux fur!
I told you all about this amazing chair with its curvy shape and all that lucite goodness {kinda like me minus the lucite ?} back in week 2 of Kayla’s bedroom makeover. The black leather seat and silver base was a bit too masculine though for Kayla’s room, and that’s where this easy makeover comes in.
The first step was taking the chair apart. Magnolia the cat was supervising this project.
Painting the legs was next on the list. Since the legs were slightly discolored, I sprayed them with two even thin coats of Rustoleum primer made especially for metal.
To protect the wheels I covered them with painters tape. A little paint still got on them, but it wasn’t a big deal.
Once the primer was completely dry, I sprayed three even thin coats of Rustoleum bright gold spray paint to really give this office chair makeover the glam factor!
While the legs dried I tackled the seat, which I planned on covering with faux sheepskin. I’ve never worked with faux fur before you guys so I was a little nervous about this part.
Given the fact that the seat isn’t very large, my initial thought was to use one of the two IKEA TEJN faux sheepskin rugs I already owned. Upon closer inspection though I realized they’ve definitely seen better days.
I was lucky and found a very nice faux sheepskin rug for less than $20 at HomeGoods. It was definitely going to give me to the soft luxurious look I was after for the seat.
Once I had my “fabric” I cut it to size and stapled it directly over the existing cover since it was so thin. Plus truth be told ain’t nobody got time to be removing all those dang staples LOL.
This is what the seat looked like when I was all done stapling. Magnolia our cat was very jealous of our new pet seat LOL.
With the leftover faux fur you can apparently make all sorts of nifty things, santa beards anyone ???!
All that was left to do was put the chair back together.
