After 5 weeks of frantic decluttering, DIYing, and decorating. The office guest bedroom One Room Challenge reveal is finally here!
Hey friends, we made it! It’s the big reveal of my office guest bedroom makeover!
If you’re new here welcome!You can catch up with the previous weeks below.
Week 1 & 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Reveal {you are here}
Now, this is my fourth One Room Challenge {ORC}. But, it’s my first time jumping into it a week late with no real budget or plans.
{Clearly I like living on the edge 😅}
But if you remember the before you’ll get why I was so desperate to give my combination office guest bedroom a makeover.
I have to admit the One Room Challenge reveal is always my favorite post.
Mostly because the final results is always a little different than what I planned in the beginning.
Here’s the mood board with my design plans.
And here is the office guest bedroom final look.
Since I really didn’t budget for this makeover {rememer this was a spur of the moment decision}. The amount I could spend on new pieces was limited for a makeover like this.
The plan was to mainly use pieces I already owned, and make it work!
The campaign desk was a Mother’s Day gift a few years ago.
However, it was in the loft playroom in our last home, so until now it was mostly the kids making use of it.
The desk can double as a dressing table when we have guests. With me simply moving my computer to my bedroom.
{Where I’ve been working the last 10 months.}
This tobacco leaf lamp that I picked up during a rare antique store run with hubby on our anniversary a few years ago.
I think this side of the room with my desk and gold faux bamboo shelf might be my fave!
Pretty much everything here I already had on hand.
You can read all about the $40 faux bamboo shelf I made over with gold spray paint HERE.
The vintage Syroco flower wall decor and daybed was previously in my daughter's room.
The daybed looks anything but childish with the addition of 2 simple white 26x26 euro pillows, 2 fun fringed bolster pillows, and a luxurious pink faux fur throw.
The cushy pillows make it a perfect place to perch for everyday use. While still having a comfy bed for overnight guests.
I was able to buy a few new pieces as well, by selling decor items I cleared out of the room.
The tulip table knock-off from Ikea came from the as-is section for 42% off. I had some reservations about using it at first.
Bu, I'm happy to say, I love it in here! The clean lines are a wonderful juxtaposition to the more traditional pieces in the room and give the space a youthful vibe.
{The silhouettes of my kids we got during a family vacation at Disney World.}
It’ll be where I record my YouTube videos, do small craft projects, and a spot for the kids to do homework while I’m in here working.
The rug {seriously one of my favorite elements in the room} was a last minute replacement I scored at HomeGoods really pulled the room together and added color and pattern.
Another new piece is this mint condition vintage Dixie dresser I scored for $100 on FB marketplace.
The pagoda lamps was another HomeGoods score I got them on clearance for $40 each! I love the whimsy they added to the room.
Like I shared in week 3, I opted to use this dresser instead of the white shelves from the original mood board more closed storage.
Whew! What a crazy 5 weeks. But it was so worth it!
When I started you could barely walk in this room. It was a waste of space that became basically a junk room since we moved here in January.
Now it’s a bright, pretty, and functional space that will serve our family every day and those who come to visit!
This makeover has certainly reinforced to me the power of decorating. I didn’t even paint y’all!
I still have the closet and bathroom to spruce up, so we’ll definitely be revisiting the office guest bedroom again!
Sidenote, serendipitously I got my AMARA interior blog award today in the mail. That's right your girl is officially an award-winning blogger!

Hi there - I do hope you get this comment! I've been a follower of your blog for many, many years. Love your style, color choices and decor. I love your home office/guest room makeover. You mentioned that it was big - would you mind sharing the dimensions of the room? I love the layout and would like to recreate that in my home office/guest room! But not sure how much space I have compared to the layout in this room. Thanks for your help. Blessings to you. Julie

I love how your room turned out! Whimsical, traditional, modern and classic, all at the same time?! Your rug really brings the room together and your tobacco leaf lamp is so beautiful. I had to stop and gaze on it for awhile. Just beautiful. I know you said you did not paint the room but do you have any idea what the paint color on the walls is? It's the perfect backdrop for all of you colors. It's a perfect neutral. If you know what it is I would love to know. I'm planning on painting my home in the very near future! Thank you for the inspiration.

I was just going. to breeze through my e mails and not spend too much time at my computer BUT THEN I saw your YouTube adventure for this room and it had a piece I have in my house...those blue and white stools/ottomans(?) you have around the table. I have one to use with a blue chair. But I fell in love with the way you have them right out there in the room with the round table. The room you created with all the beautiful touches and colors and bright, happy atmosphere has inspired me to pull my "ottoman" away from the chair it's by and use it as a focal point of my room. By the way, we both have the same name and I love your design sense and your welcoming way. Thanks for inspiration. Now I've got to go get one of those colorful rugs and try to find a matching stool/ottoman....Yay!

Pamela Rosenberg says
I am swooning. We are downsizing our home up north and I was debating what to do with the guest room and where to put my desk. My husband feels it needs to be a guest room for when the kids come in (maybe six nights a year) but that would mean my desk would end up in a windowless part of the lower level. I like this combination and think I can sell him on it when the concept is so well done. Love those gold etageres and you have them styled beautifully. Thank you for the inspiration.
Linda P. says
Hi Pamela, Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting and I’m so glad you got some inspiration for your own space. I have to say I know exactly how it is trying to get a design plan past the husband LOL. Crossing my fingers for you that it works out because I’m sure you would enjoy working in a room with natural light versus one without, especially since it will only be in use a few weeks out of the year.
Stacey @ Poofing the Pillows says
