Hey friends! Welcome to week 2 of The One Room Challenge hosted by Linda from Calling It Home. This is going to be to most unupdated {probably not a real word} update ever. The kids are on fall break this week and we had a full schedule, so getting around to the room just hasn't really happened {remember I'm doing this makeover in real time}.
Plus dealing with news of the devastation left behind by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, where I was born and spent my formative years, not to mention still having a lot of family there was tough. Just being honest it's hard not to feel bad sometimes blogging about home decor stuff when there are people living without even the very basics {sorry I didn't mean to a downer you guys}.
Ok, so back to the room. I did have time to post my bedroom on craigslist, but so far no bite. Part of me just wants to call the Goodwill to come pick it up. However, all the pieces are still in really good condition {even after 7 moves!}. Plus having the extra cash to go towards the makeover would also be nice.
However, it's a good thing that it did not sell yet, and let me tell you why! Ok so my initial plans for new nightstands was an Ikea Rast dresser hack.
I wanted to do similar to this Rast dresser from Armelle's Blog, with the addition of some overlays.
That is until I came across this wonderful night stand makeover tutorial from Dimples and Tangles!
I think with the trick that Jennifer shared on how to get rid of the dated look of the multiple smaller drawers, paint, and new hardware I can give my current nightstands an updated look for less. Not only do I love the idea of updating what I have versus buying and then DYIng. But practically giving away these solid wood nightstands on Craigslist only to buy an Ikea piece that I know will not be as good quality wise seems silly.
So now I'm just trying to nail down the hardware {pun intended}. These are the options that are in the running!
Alright you guys that's all I got this week. I'm hoping to share a much bigger update next week. The fear of not finishing this makeover on time is so real right now ?! However, I'm hoping once the paint is up and I get rid of the current furniture {not including the nightstands}, that things will start coming along much quicker.
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you'll follow along for the crazy busy next few weeks I'm sure to have playing catch up. The best way to stay updated is to sign up to my email list and get my new posts delivered right to your inbox. I promise, no spam ever!
Don't forget to check out the other guest participants. There is always so much inspiration to be found in the ORC link ups!

It is a much better idea to make over your night stands. They are much better quality. Plus I already saw the start of the project on your last post and they already look better. 😉

Linda I am so sorry to hear about your family and friends in Haiti. I know that having family in crisis areas can be very hard. I hope they are safe and well.
I love the idea you came up with for making over the solid wood furniture. ALthought we love Ikea there is nothing that beats solid wood and I know you will do a great job with it. Looking forward to your progress.

I'm so glad you chose to keep your bedroom set.. it's actually fantastic furniture and you're right about giving up good quality furniture. The ikea stuff is nice but it doesn't last long. I love the clear handles and I know what ever you chose to do it's going to look all fab again! I look forward to seeing what you do
