Hey friends, so I'm convinced that time is somehow accelerated when you join the One Room Challenge because how is it the end of week 3 already!
I think until this challenge is over I will sound like a broken record in saying I'm so behind! You guys almost gave up this week, which is not like me. However, I've never encountered in my life such a perfect example of Murphy's law the likes of what is happening to me right now. I kid you not! Just about everything that can go wrong has gone wrong {groans and covers eyes}.
Ok, let's talk about the wins for the week. I really really wanted blue velvet curtains, as a way to bring in a little drama and lux to the room. The ones that I initially found from Anthropologie are $288 per panel and I need 4 panels {I'll let you do the math}, so yeah that wasn't going to happen. After a pretty exhaustive online search, I still couldn't find any that was in my price range for the length I needed {90"}.

As it always happen during a random trip to HomeGoods I spied these beautiful blue "velvet" curtains and I couldn't believe my luck! They were $29.99 for the pair and the length 50 X 90 {yasss}, I actually did a happy dance! The blue isn't as dark as I would have liked, but beggars can't be choosers. Plus, I think it will still work beautifully with the rug.
I also found this super pretty trinket box for my nightstand during the same shopping trip. I think that's about all the blue I will be adding to the room.
So on the same day I went to HomeGoods I also stopped by Hobby Lobby {they are a great source for pretty and inexpensive hardware} and I'm so glad that I did. I found the exact same "lucite" and brass pulls for more than half the price of the ones I shared as an option in last weeks update!
Speaking of nightstands, remember last week I shared my plans to update my existing nightstand rather than tackle the Ikea hack I had initially planned. I started working on them and so far so good, as you can see the faux smaller drawers are gone!
I only have one coat of primer on the nightstands in this picture, and I like them better already. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the existing holes in the bottom drawer works perfectly with the new hardware, so that's four fewer holes to drill {hey every little bit counts}.
Now let's talk about what is going to go on top of these nightstands once they're all purty. I wasn't necessarily looking for mercury glass lamps but these beauties caught my eye from way across the store while at Ross, and for the price I was hard pressed to leave them behind.
Although I decided to revamp the nightstands the rest of the furniture in my bedroom is currently on Craigslist. The purple tufted bench sold today and someone is coming to look at the tall dresser tomorrow {fingers crossed they buy it}. That will leave me with the bookcase that is being replaced with the campaign dresser, and our bed that might end up in the garage as the new bed has been ordered.
This week was definitely a great shopping week, but I'm still nervous with the amount of work left to do. Here is what I'm hoping to get done this week if all goes according to plan {wish me luck}.
~Get room painted
~Finish updating nightstands
~Start working on campaign dresser makeover
~Sell the rest of the existing furniture
~Clean carpet
~Declutter

Linda P. says
Thanks so much Carli! I'm nervous about the curtains because I don't want them to look like a 70"s throwback LOL but we'll see. Hobby Lobby was so clutch because all the online options cost a lot more.

Amazing score on the curtains! I would like red velvet drapes for my living room, but the cost is prohibitive to me as well. Hopefully I get as lucky as you!

Hi Jessica, as someone who swears by cheap Ikea drapes I did not realize that velvet curtains real or faux was so expensive! Since we're coming up on the holiday season I think you might have a good chance now of finding some, good luck!
