Happy Sunday friends! I have a question for you, is having your home more organized on your lists of things you want to accomplish this year? If the answer is yes, then we are on the same page! I'm in full declutter and organize mode!

Like I mentioned in my 4 tips for organizing your Christmas decor post one of my goals moving forward is to get my home more organized. Admittedly, I'm not an organizer naturally, its something I really I have to work at.
When we moved into this house last April, I put things wherever seemed to make sense at the time with no real thought of organization. I just wanted the moving boxes out of the house!
Well almost a year later that rooster has certainly come home to roost. We currently have several closets overflowing with clothes, toys, decor items, and spaces {like our mud room area} that's just not functional due to a lack of organization and proper storage.
Exhibit A: my daughters closet {don't judge me too harshly y'all ? }.
It's been a little overwhelming when I think about needing to declutter and organize so many different areas. But, clearly doing nothing was not working! I needed a springboard to get things started!
As my hubby always tells me, the best place to start with any project is with a list {he is a list maker extraordinaire}! So my first step was making the list you see below of exactly what I needed to tackle around the house. Knowing what you need to work on is half the battle {shout out to GI Joe ?}.
Loft Space (office/playroom)
1. Desk drawer
2. Purge and organize kids toys
3. Organize toy closet
4. Bill filing system
5. Storage solution for early reader books {we have a ton of those little books}
6. Organize craft/decor closet
~ Gift wrapping station
~ Storage solution for kids crafts and art supplies
~ Make room for sewing machine and printer
~Camera equipment storage
Linen Closet
1. Purge
2. Streamline towel system
3. Move kids bed linens to individual closets
Kids Rooms
3. Declutter toy bins
4. Clean out/ purge dresser draws
Mud Room
1. Hang low hooks for kids coats and bags
2. Drop off zone for kid's school papers and mail
3. Storage for “out the door essentials” (lotion, wipes, hairbrush, etc.)
Kitchen
1. Add storage for paper products
2. Declutter junk drawers
3. Phone charging station
4. Pantry
~Snack organization
~Over the door storage for added space
~Storage solution for grocery store bags
Master bedroom/bathroom/closet
1. Clean out closet
2. Purge & organize TV stand
3. Empty and remove tall dresser
4. Clean out shoes under bed
As you can see my list is relatively long. But, having this list has helped me visually break up what I need to get done, and for me that has made all the difference! Now its easier to tackle one task at a time, making this whole endeavor of organizing my home much more manageable.
Instead of freaking out because I have practically a whole house that's currently "organizationally challenge" shall we say. I can refer to my handy list when I have time and start getting things done!
Whether I have just a few minutes to tackle something small on my list like cleaning out my desk drawer, or it's a weekend project like cleaning out and organizing my decor closet {trust me that needs a whole weekend y'all!}. I'm steadily getting one step closer to my goal of having a home that's more organized! Plus, don't you just love the feeling of crossing things of your lists?! That always motivates me to keep going!
I'm so excited to get started and share my progress with you guys! I will be showing the after of my daughters closet on Sunday, so come back and check it out!

?"organizationally challenged" I couldnt agree more with writing out lists, I actually did the same thing today (but only for upstairs, if I went any further my head would have been spinning!) At least you have a good handle on what needs to be done!

Carli "organizationally Challenged" might even be an understatement ?! I'm glad you got a list going too! For me putting it out there was really the only way I was going to get all of it done!
