    Pottery Barn Inspired DIY Pinboard

Hey friends! Remember the Pottery Barn inspired DIY pinboard I made for Kayla's big girl bedroom makeover? Well today I'm sharing how I made it!

Although I originally planned to use this mirror over Kayla's desk,  it dawned on me that it wouldn't be as practical as a pinboard would be.

My version was inspired by these two pinboards from Pottery Barn. I love the easy to replicate frame of these cute Sentiment pinboards but, I wanted the neutral backdrop of the Emily & Meritt Scallop Statement pinboard.

Truth be told if I could I would've loved to replicate the entire look of the Emily and Merrit Scallop pinboard, but those scallop edges are a bit above my DIY level. So I decided to stay in my lane and just use a square frame to replicate the look of the large Sentiment pinboards.

How To Make a Pottery Barn Inspired DIY Pinboard

    What you need

Large frame  - I got mine from the thrift store for $6

A corkboard piece in your desired size - I also got my corkboard from the thrift store for $2.05

Fabric - I used a piece of linen fabric I already had.

    Staple gun

Box cutter - to cut your corkboard if necessary

    Directions

I started out by taken my frame apart. I used some wire cutters to remove the staples in the back.

Once my frame was empty it was time to paint!

*If your frame is already the color you want just skip this step.

I wanted the frame to have more of a brass look rather than a yellowish gold. So I spray painted it with Design Masters brilliant gold spray paint {It's my go-to color when I want a brassy look!}.

I tackled the corkboard next. The great thing about buying this used is the frame was already loose, which made it really easy to take apart just using my hands.

Since my corkboard was bigger than the frame, I used the cardboard backing that came with the painting as a template to cut the corkboard to size using a box cutter.

I also used the cardboard backing that came with the painting to measure and cut my fabric.

Next, I ironed my fabric. I had this piece of fabric stashed away for two years, so it was pretty wrinkled. However, I would still suggest ironing your fabric even if it's not super wrinkled. Just so you can get it as smooth as possible.

Now lay your fabric down making sure the side you want to show is facing down {so you should be looking at the back side of the fabric}. Place your corkboard on the fabric. I also decided to use the cardboard backing that came with the painting to make it sturdier.

While pulling the fabric taught over the corkboard and cardboard backing, stapled the fabric to the corkboard and the cardboard backing.

Never mind my awful cutting, clearly, this was a rush job. I'll do better next time!

Next, I placed my fabric wrapped corkboard in the open frame. Using the staples I secured the fabric covered corkboard to the frame.

I used some D Ring picture hanging hooks and screwed it to the back of the frame, and I was done.

This was a really easy project, that cost me less than $10.

Now, just hang your new Pottery Barn inspired pinboard and enjoy!

Kayla loves to draw and write so this will be really handy when school starts next week. I plan to use it for displaying some of her best artwork and papers from school.

This turned out so beautifully, Linda! As did the price tag compared to Pottery Barn, I'm sure! This is so chic and gorgeous and looks like the perfect place to display all of your daughter's artwork. Very neat!

Thank you Carli! It doesn't look so cute now there are so many drawings from Kayla on it ?. But, I'm OK with that because that was the purpose. ??
