So I gave you a sneak peek in my inexpensive screened-in porch makeover reveal of this fun DIY project we tackled last weekend.
I wonder how many of you guessed what this piece of furniture used to be.
Did you guess a sewing table? Well, if you did you are correct!

Using an old sewing table and a basic plastic storage bin.
I created this cute drink station that's perfect for at-home entertaining!
I would love for you to think I came up with this awesome idea on my own.
However, it all started with this picture I came across from an Etsy seller Design With Us via Pinterest.
Of course, I was looking for something totally unrelated {you know how the Pinterest rabbit holes go!}.
I suddenly remembered under a mountain of randomness in the garage. I had an old sewing table that I picked up at a garage sale back in the fall.
The plan was to use it to practice my sewing. But honestly I still just use the dining room table.
So this sewing table was just collecting dust in the garage.
Hubby had already removed the old sewing machine and its mechanisms back when I first got it.
Removing the attached overhang piece was the only thing left to do.
I primed and painted the sewing table using the same method that I used to paint the campaign nightstand.
I went with the color seaside by Rustoleum, which is almost a perfect match to the chairs we have on our screened-in porch.
So at this point, it's still just an old sewing table that's painted a pretty color right?
Well, add a basic plastic storage bin from your local big-box store. And voila, you have a functional drink station!
Now originally I wanted a plastic storage bin to go underneath the hole in the table.
We plan to secure it to the sewing table with screws. Permanently attaching it to the sewing table.
But once we were done using it. How would we be able to empty out the water and ice?
We quickly had an AHA moment!
Why not just get a plastic storage bin that has a slight overhang so it would just sit right in the hole.
The beauty of doing this versus permanently attaching it to the sewing table.
We can now just pop out the bin when we're not using it. Making easy work of getting rid of the ice and water!
After trying a bunch of different bins. This Hefty plastic storage bin fits perfectly! Even the lid and handle color are a perfect match. {Clearly, it was meant to be 😄}
Even with the weight of the ice and drinks combined, there are no worries it will fall through, because of the amount of overhang on either side.
It's very very sturdy!
Now add some cute drinking accessories like paper straws and festive cups. {I love this vintage drink set I scored for $5!}
And you have a fun and functional drink station, that you can use indoors and out!
Gratuitous shot of our other sitting area.
I'm in love with how this turned out for you guys! I can see us using it for all sorts of gatherings!
I would love to know what you think about this simple DIY project.
Is this a piece you can see yourself using? Let me know in the comments below.

I made a table like this with one change. I xit a piece of plywood that fit under the table
Used it two ways. Held the plastic dish pan and I added wine glass holder on the bottom.

Did you seal it with anything to leave it outdoors in the weather or are you planning to haul it in and out of the house for use? Thanks!
Linda P. says
Hi Nikki! I did not since it was a super quick project. However, a few coats of Polycrylic wouldn't be a bad idea. Even still I wouldn't leave it out in the elements. It's not a piece I imagine using daily, so yes I will bring it in whenever I'm done using it. Good Luck!

What a fantastic upcycle! And I LOVE the color you picked. I could totally see us using this, especially as a lemonade stand for the kids. Best part is it folds up small and can be used as an end table when not needed for drinks. Great thinking!

Audra, A lemonade stand is such a cute idea! I kinda want to that now LOL. Yes having the ability to fold it up and put it away is really a bonus! Thanks for stopping by today! I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

I recently refurbished a sewing machine table into an outdoor drink station but the arm on the left that opens up, if I put any weight at all on it, it starts bending down. Any suggestions on how to secure that so it can hold weight?
