Tips For Decorating Around A TV

Hey friends! Unless you fall into the 'I don't watch television' group of people {a group I've never encountered in my life}.

Chances are you have a tv in your main living space. So we're going to chat a bit about around the TV decor.

When we first moved into this house I immediately knew we wouldn't put our TV over the fireplace. The fireplace is very tall and having to risk getting a crick in the neck every time I watch TV wasn't something I was trying to do.

Given our furniture placement, the logical choice for the TV was against this long wall parallel to our sectional.

Now we had the TV at a good height and no longer fear for our poor necks.

However, having the TV against this big blank wall is basically like having a neon sign saying "hey everybody look at this big empty wall!"

    Around the TV Decor

    To keep this project budget-friendly, I used Ikea's 19 ¾ x 19 ¾ " Ribba frames because I already had four of the six I would need.

As soon they went up, I knew it was the right move. They look great even with the empty frames.

*Tip - Use paper {I used craft paper} to create templates so can see how your layout will look without putting any unnecessary holes in the wall.

I enlisted the help of my husband, who's totally opposite of me when it comes to these types of things.

Me? I almost always just eyeball it when hanging frames. He actually measures, which I think is necessary for this project 😅.

*Tip - This frame hanging hack by Kelly from View Along The Way is genius! I use it every time I hang a frame.  Also, Don't forget to use a level. Nothing is worse than thinking you're done, only to step back and see your frames are noticeably crooked. You can even get level apps on your smartphones now!

2 + years later I still love it! {Might be time to change out the photos}. It's hands down the best decor decision I made to give my living room a more finished look!

You may also notice I have a new TV console. The other was a bit too low and not our style anymore.

This vintage dresser from Craigslist. However, is right up our alley! We got it 2 years ago, for less than $200.

*Tip - When choosing a TV stand or console make sure the proportions work. Don't have a large TV on a small stand. Under most circumstances, it's better to have a console that's solid and bigger than your TV.  A solid piece also helps hide cords.

This around the tv decor works because the frames are large, so they make a statement and have a presence.

Yet the white color of the frames and black and white photos keep it from looking too busy or distracting.

*Tip - Unless you're creating an eclectic gallery wall. Sticking with a few larger size decor items in a similar color palette around your TV will work best. A lot of small pieces can start looking haphazard and cluttered real quick.

Well, that's my around the tv decor!

What about you, do you have any decor around your tv?

Thanks for stopping by, see you next time.
