Happy New Year! I can't explain how good it feels to be sitting down writing my first blog post in a while. I've missed it and you.
However, the truth is over the past couple of years the future of The Home I Create has been unclear to me. I started asking myself questions like, does anyone read blogs anymore? Is this blog helping anyone? Do I even still want to blog?
After talking with my husband, therapist, and friend. It was clear to everyone (except me apparently) that I was not ready to give up on my baby {this blog LOL}. It was bought to my attention that even when I'm not actively doing it, I talk about blogging A LOT. Not to mention I'm constantly doing administrative work behind-the-scenes to maintain and keep this blog up to date.
Suffice to say they were right. There's something deep inside me that still get excited about sharing a simple DIY, a budget-friendly room makeover, or an affordable home decor find.
Since its inception, this blog has been an outlet to share my creativity in hopes that it would be helpful and useful to those who read this blog. Not to mention I wanted to "meet" and create community with folks who are also into home decor.
And in that spirit, I'm not only encouraged to keep going by the people in my life but y'all, my wonderful readers too. Because the analytics tells me that folks are still reading the blog. Plus I've gotten messages on social media and emails checking in on me. And I can't say enough how thankful and lucky I feel to have such thoughtful and caring folks as part of my community.
I don't know what else to say but THANK YOU! You are the reason this blog exists and I always want to share posts that help you.
So will all that being said your girl is back and I plan to make 2022 the best year yet for The Home I Create! I'm so excited to bring you fresh, useful, and inspiring content in 2022.
What's Coming To The Blog In 2022
- More thrifty finds and makeovers
- The basics of decorating and home styling. For example how to style tables, what size rug to buy, etc...
- Afffordable home decor and lifestyle finds
- Renter friendly decor
- A revamp of the printables library with some new printables coming very soon.
House Updates Plan for 2022
"Formal" Living & Dining Room Update (take 2)
If you read this blog for any length of time you know my “formal” living and dining room is long-suffering lol. Both spaces got a glow-up in 2018 when we first moved in as part of the One Room Challenge.
After a couple of years, the glow had faded and it was clear the formal design wasn’t working for our family. So I decided to update both spaces for a more casual feel. I even shared my plans and progress but I never finished.
So it’s back to the drawing board and this time we’re taking it all the way.
Entryway Refresh
Since we moved into this house in 2018 our small entryway has come a long way but I've struggled to put the finishing touches in this space. So it has felt like one long work in progress.
Especially when you consider I still have the indoor/outdoor rug from the porch in our last home in the entry {you never see it because I move it when I take photos hehe}. This is why this refresh is the first on my list to tackle.
Kids Bedrooms
When we first moved into this house our kids were 11 and 9. Now my son is in high school and my daughter is in middle school and they both have been asking for room updates.
However, we’re not just updating their rooms. We’re actually switching their rooms. So it’s going to be like bedroom musical chairs if you will.
Kayla is moving to what is currently my office. Jaden is moving to Kayla’s current bedroom. And Jaden’s tiny room will now become a shared office space for hubby and me. Whew, this will obviously be a multi-part project.
Powder Room
Our powder room is a small sad space y'all and the wood floor in there is just tragic. So I’m going to give peel and stick flooring a try along with some other small decor touches. I’m very excited and a little nervous about this project.
These are the main projects I plan on tackling but of course, these things are like a domino effect. So there will be plenty of other posts covering the range of topics we talked about above.
This was a long post and you are the real MVP if you made it this far. Thank you so much for being here, I truly appreciate you.
xo,

Hi there, I am a new reader and I'm looking forward to following along with your house updates this year. I am a past blogger, I stopped blogging years ago when Facebook overtook the world, and I miss it, so I have started up blogging again recently, so I understand a bit about what you mentioned in this post about your blog.
I'll be updating a few spaces in our recently purchased coast house so hoping to be inspired by your projects too.
Have a great blogging year 🙂
