One day I was scrolling Pinterest and came across the photo below of my living room.
This hurts me to say. However, if it wasn't my own photo. I probably wouldn't have pinned it.
That was the moment I had to face the fact that I outgrew my current decorating style. (The proof is in the pin LOL).

When your decorating style changes
Just like with most things in life. I think it's natural for our decorating style to change over time as we go through different seasons of our lives.
For me, I'm currently starting a decluttering journey. Which makes it the ideal time to let go of all the excess home decor that just isn't working for me.
Not to mention how chaotic life and the world feels right now. I need my home to be relaxed, warm, and peaceful. Not colorful and formal.
For these reasons, my style has shifted quite a bit since the fall/winter of 2018.
So far the biggest shift has been in my family room. These photos are from my family fall tour in 2018 as a refresher.
And, here is our family room today
I didn't really decorate for Fall this year if you compare it to my past fall home tours.
However, I couldn't resist a couple of cute little pumpkins.
As you can see I've toned down my decorating style quite a bit.
This neutral and more casual style is exactly the changes my family and family room needed right now.
Using Pinterest for Inspiration
I never shared this tidbit, but almost immediately after the Pinterest incident, I shared at the beginning of this post
(I love how dramatic I'm making it sound LOL).
I wrote this post sharing my mistakes in decorating my living room. Unfortunately, life happened and I never got to finish updating this space.
Getting a cohesive look throughout my home is the goal. So I plan to gradually make more changes.
Including finally finishing my formal living room update. To give it a similar look and feel like my family room.
(Although that might have to wait until after the holidays.)
Quick Tip: If you need help figuring out your style. Pinterest is an amazing resource for gathering your home inspiration photos on one board. Over time you will start to see the similarities among your pins. This will help you get a better picture of your personal decorating style.
Below are some inspirational photos from my various home decor Pinterest boards that capture the overall vibe I'm going for in my home at the moment (with my own twist of course).
All the photos are from Studio McGee. Their spaces are seriously my decorating style goals!
Did you get a chance to check out their new affordable home decor line at Target?
(It's like the universe is actively working against my efforts to reduce my home decor purchases.)

Your rooms look cohesive and calm now. I like all the neutrals with the pops of blue. So classic!
